The ongoing saga of the Orchard Spot roundabout ................
After enquiries from residents to the DCA Chairman, he contacted the Parish Clerk to ask about the problems on the Orchard Spot roundabout.

February/June 2009 - Downswood Parish Council discussed planting on the roundabout. After discussions with various parties it was agreed that heathers would be planted and ragstone would enhance the area. Cost: £1737.00 Maidstone Borough Council expect this project to be completed by Christmas 2009. After bad weather and communication problems with the contractors Downswood Parish Councillors announced that the project will be completed by the end of March 2010.

Although the small ragstone rocks have been replaced by larger ones, many of the small heathers are dying and many uprooted, the weeds are again taking over. The Downswood Parish Councillors reported to Maidstone Borough Council that they were totally dissatisfied with the work carried out.

If you require any further updates on the roundabout (which you are paying for), please contact Downswood Parish Clerk: (01622) 717466.

It appears another car crashed into a residents garden in Pennine way last week (August 2010).Was this one of the hundreds of motorist using Downswood as a short cut to avoid the Willington St/Madginford Rd traffic lights? Are you experiencing problems driving out onto Willington St in the mornings? Write to The KCC if you object to Deringwood Drive being used as a rat run!
