Downswood football club:The DCA has recently made a one off donation of £100 to support our local team as it was agreed that they also support the objects of the DCA constitution.




Saturday October 16

Downswood beat East Malling 1- 0 this was a tight game and was Marred by a serious injury to Woods Chris Green on 30 mins which seemed to have a impact on they way as they seemed to have there minds elsewhere and it was a powerful Jof Everett header that gave woods a half time lead.

In the second half Mallings was playing all the football as they pressed forward for the equaliser and some real solid defending didn't allow them a clear chance at Jim Bodle in goal with Tom Green Alex Skinner Mark Barrett and Jof Everett all being resolute at the back,Woods actually had the best chance when Ben Stevens and John Gilham combined to set Leigh West to volley only to b denied by a wonder save so it Finnish 1-0 and everyone waiting to hear the news from the hospital.


Saturday October 9

Kent cup Group A round 1
Downswood travelled to Tonbridge on Saturday 9th October and swiped aside there host Woodlands 9-0!

Pedro Almeida started the route and Ben Stevens smashed home a brace before half time.

In the second half Jim Bodle was a spectator in the Woods goal as he watched the goals fly in from Alex Skinner, Lewis Mingle, Joe Walker and the Steens completed his hat-trick.

He then got a 4th before setting up Leigh West to tap home on his return from a serious back operation.



Saturday 25th September

Downswood beat Castle Colts 0-1 ,in a tight and bruising encounter on 25th September 2010.

Woods started the sharper and threaten through the lively Ben Stevens and what was turning into a midfield battlezone and both defence were not allowing much goalmouth action. The best being a Woods free kick saw Jack Stansell arrow
one top corner shot only to be denied by the superman like Adam Foreman. Then a John Gilham thro ball saw Stansell race clear only to be denied again by Castle Keeper Foreman.

In the second half Woods, Ash Greenwood was starting to influence the game and had a strong but fair battle with Castles Alfie Souter. As Woods started to take control Chris Green went close and when Ben Stevens raced down the left cutting in and rolling the ball square for Ash Greenwood to smash home for 1-0.

As Castle tried to get back into the game it started to get tense and on 70 minutes Woods had a man sent off. Setting up a tight finish as Castle threw man forward but the back four of Elkington, Everett, Barrett and Mingle held strong and a punt
up field from Mingle saw Steve Mattingley clean thro only to be denied by keeper Foreman once again! As Castle Threw everything they had forward to equalise Woods Held out for a big 3 points.



Saturday 18th September

Downswood beat Addington 5-0 to move into the quarter finals of the Benevolant cup.

Downswoods started strong and took early control and lead when Ben Stevens slotted home.

'Woods' were playing some nice football and a sweet move saw the returning Steve Mattingley from injury, smash a volley on to the bar and it was Mattingley who recieved the ball from Alex Skinner and played a wonderful through ball which Stevens thumped into the top corner for 2-0.

Then some Stunning skill by Ash Greenwood saw him fouled in the box which Captain Jack Stansell converted.The ever dangerous Mattingley raced clear from a Mark Barrett pass for a pinpoint cross to John Gilham who's volley put woods 4-0 up at half time.

In the second half 'Woods' took the opportunity to rotate the squad and we went close, as Kean Elkington released, Pedro Almeida drove across the goal,then Jof Everett forced a fine save out of the Addington keeper.Will King who then denied Tom Green, all one way traffic now and another Pinpoint pass from Greenwood saw Chris Green head home the 5th - making it 5-0 to Downswood!
